The theme: The British ways of life

Aim: to enrichment the pupils knowledge learning information about British and continent‘s ways of life, about their table manners comparing them with the Kazakhstan’s ways of life;

To develop the pupils speech revising the grammar material the modal verb should, by doing exercises, using tasks on computer, discussing the theme giving their opinions on the theme;

To bring up pupils to know the ways of life, customs and the traditions of the country they learn and to bring up them to know their own ways of life too, to bring up them to respect the elder people and to keep the healthy ways of life;

Visuality: a map of the UK and Northern Ireland, semantic cards, pictures, a computer, a music composition, a slogan, a blackboard.

Good afternoon, children!

  1. Phonetic drill.

Let’s begin our lesson.

Let’s take our phonetic drill.

I’ll read and then you will repeat after me in chorus.

  1. Grammar material (should/shouldn’t)

Let’s revise our grammar material.

Look through the poem again and find the modal verbs

P1: should

P2: shouldn’t

Teacher: Yes, you are right.

Now, who tells me what kind of other modal verb do you know?

P3: can, may, must

Teacher: When do you use them?

Who wants to explain me?

(Teacher explains the rules of using the modal verbs).

Teacher: Now we’ll work on the computer . Your task is to complete the sentences with the verbs (should/shouldn’t). You’ll do tasks on modal verbs. I’ll check your work. ( Teacher checks their works and corrects).

Look through the poem again and say what about is it?

P1: Table manners

Teacher: What does it mean?

P2: Столда дұрыс отыру

Teacher: OK, that’s right. It means the table rules.

Has every country their own table manners?

P1: Yes they have

Every country has their own ways of life too.

Teacher: The ways of life. What do they mean?

Teacher: Quite right! I see you are so clever!

You see that all these things are important in our life. But every country has their own ways of life too. Our todays text about the British ways of life.

Look at the blackboard and we’ll revise the new words.

Teacher: Now, look at the map all together …

(Teacher asks the questions and the pupils answer them).

Text: “The British ways of life”.

1/ … what do you think?

Do people of England seldom speak about weather?

(Teacher asks the questions and the pupils give their opinions).

Teacher: Listen the continuation.

(Teacher asks the questions and the pupils give their opinions).

Teacher: I have read the text and you have received some information.

(Teacher explains their tasks).You may look through the text.

P1: On the continent people seldom speak about weather.

P2: In England they often speak about weather.

P3: On the continent Sunday papers appear on Monday.

P4: In England papers appear on Sunday.

(Тақтаға түсіру)

After reading the text teacher asks the questions and the pupils answer them.

Questions:

  1. What kind of country is Kazakhstan?

  2. Do they often speak about weather as English people?

  3. What do they ask about when they meet each other?

  4. Do they use quotations or proverbs?

  5. What kind of proverbs do you know?

  6. What’s the moral side of the text?

Now I’ll give you semantic cards. (Teacher explains their tasks). Complete these parts according to our theme, according to the text. (One of pupils work on the blackboard).
