Summer is perhaps everybody’s favourite season, not only because of the healing rays of sun, but also because it’s the time for long holidays. Many people plan these holidays in advance to spend them effectively. That’s my strategy as well. Last summer together with my family we flew to Egypt for two weeks. It was a good idea from the very start. First of all, we’ve never been to this country before. Secondly, it offers various holiday opportunities. People, who are fond of seaside, will be pleased to find there a caressing sea and sun. Those, who prefer wandering around ancient architectural structures, will find many worthy sights. And finally, those, who appreciate first-class service, will be also satisfied. As for me, I was looking forward to all the above-mentioned features and my expectations were met.
Egypt turned out to be a very interesting country with distinctive culture. People in Hurgada were very welcoming and willing to socialize with foreigners. Several times I got lost in market areas, they never refused to help. As I said before, our trip was fully planned. We weren’t going to simply stay at the hotel rooms, swimming and sunbathing every day. We had an interesting and well-thought program. On the second day we took an excursion down the Nile River. It was an exciting feeling to surf the streams of the longest river in the world. Besides, the alligators were nowhere near people. In a few days we had another excursion to the capital of the country – Cairo. It was a very useful trip, as we visited several historical sites, including the Egyptian Antiquities Museum, the Old City and the Citadel. Our next trip was to the Valley of the Kings near Luxor. This landmark dates back to the 16th-11th century BC.
Apart from cognitive excursions Egypt offers excellent opportunities for windsurfing. It’s a water sport that combines elements of sailing and surfing. Being a fan of all water sports, I couldn’t resist this one. Another active pastime was snorkeling. The Red Sea is full colourful fish and amazing sea life, that’s why swimming with a diving mask and swim fins can become a real adventure. In the evenings we went out to local fish restaurants. Every place we entered offered Hibiskus tea and hookah. Shopping was also exciting. We bought lots of spices, some original jewelry and tiny symbols of Egyptian sights, including the pyramids and the Great Sphinx.
