(P) Before doing their surveys,in pairs learners write down 5-6 simple questions, which can show some statistics.

Teacher elicits the knowledge of forming the questions in English.

(G) Learners work in small groups of 4-6. Learners are giventhe task to ask all the members of their group and make notes in their survey sheets.

(W)Finally, learners summarise their answers and collate their statistics to find out what most popular hobbies are in Kazakhstan among kids and teens in written form. Students make notes about most popular hobbies in Kazakhstan: (they are free to use only some of them)

Some of my classmates like playingvolleyball.

Most of my classmates are fond of listening to music.

All the boys (brothers) like to play football.

The majority of the girls (sisters) are fond ofcooking.

Additionalinformation

Differentiation – how do you plan to give more support? How do you plan to challenge the more able learners?

Assessment – how are you planning to check learners’ learning?

Critical thinking

More support:

  • More support:

  • Provide less able learners with the names of the hobbies for kids and teens

  • Create mixed ability groups for discussion.

  • More able learners:

Count the answers, analyse them and composed correct sentences about their surveys.

  • Monitor learners to check they can write correct sentences, concluding their surveys.

  • Observe learners when participating in discussion. Did each learner contribute to the discussion? If not, why not?

  • Learners managed to analyse the data, write correct sentences and make conclusions.

Learners work in groups, apply skills and knowledge to a practical and cooperative task, and produce their own materials. Critical thinking on this lesson lies in showing clarity, accuracy, precision, and consistency.

Summary evaluation
